This course aims to provide delegates with an awareness on the thresholds framework for the right help at the right time.

About this event

This training will equip practitioners to understand their responsibilities by providing them with the knowledge about applying thresholds of needs and risk and the role of the Early Help Hub and MASH when identifying concerns and making referrals to safeguarding children.

Target Group: This is for all staff working with children, young people and/or their parents/carers who could potentially contribute to assessing planning intervening and evaluating the needs of a child or young person and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding/child protection concerns.

Aims/Objectives:

1. To explain the role of the Early Help Hub in understanding and applying thresholds of need and risk.

2. To explore the SSP Threshold document (Right Help @ the Right Time, also reference to See the Adult, See the Child, Child in Need standards when developed) and its practical application in safeguarding children including where parents needs may impact on parenting capacity.

3. To demonstrate the knowledge, skills, behaviours and tools available to work with children/young people with the Early Help stages of intervention.

4. To explore the practical application of tools and opportunities to build relationships with families, empowering them to jointly assess their needs and helping them to identify how to move forward to achieve the outcomes necessary.

5. To identify ways of developing clear measurable action plans and guidance on the role of the worker who co-ordinates and supports the family with the plan.

6. To explain the role of Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, Assessment and Child Protection in understanding and applying thresholds of need and risk.

8. To demonstrate an understanding of information sharing and consent and what makes a good referral when safeguarding concerns are identified.

9. To have explored S47 Investigations, Child Protection Conference, Core Groups and Care Proceedings and how they are configured locally

10. To explain the local SSP procedure for resolving professional disagreements (Escalation Policy).
