Description

Samuel Palmer: Vision and Landscape

Join us for this fascinating insight into Samuel Palmer with local academic and author William Vaughan. A friend of the visionary painter and poet William Blake, Palmer brought an intense and innovative approach to the art of landscape. Several of Palmer’s works are included in current exhibition ‘The Land We Live In – The Land We Left Behind’. This talk will explore his career and major achievements, and will also consider his continuing influence on later generations of artists.

William Vaughan organised a major retrospective of Palmer’s work at the British Museum in 2005 and is author of ‘Samuel Palmer: Shadows on the Wall’, Yale University Press, 2015.

This is a free event, but tickets must be booked in advance.

This event is part of Thrifty Thursdays – a series of free events running alongside the forthcoming exhibition ‘The Land We Live In – The Land We Left Behind’. Taking the exhibition as a starting point to explore themes relating to the rural, each week a different artist, writer, gardener, land-worker, academic or performer will join us. The bar will be open before the event from 5.45 pm until 6.30 pm.
