Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

1 in 10 young people have experienced neglect.

Dudley is strongly committed to being a place where children and young people can thrive.

But what does this really mean and how can we make sure that it happens? We would like to invite you on a journey of discovery with likeminded people who are passionate about local communities.

This work is a big priority for Dudley Safeguarding Children Board and Dudley Children and Young People’s Alliance. Local decision makers recognise that people who work and live in our local communities already have great connections and skills. We would like to support you to develop these skills further so that you can play an important role in keeping children, young people and families in Dudley safe.

30th & 31st October - Learn it days: 9.30 - 3.30 (part 1)

Take part in two free training days where we will get to learn and practice different methods to empower people in new and exciting ways, build community knowledge and encourage local action. This approach is known as participatory appraisal.

9th & 10th November - Try it days: 9.30 - 3.30 (part 2)

We want to find out what local people understand about neglect, why it happens and what they can do to help. You will be able to try out your new skills in local communities, listen to and analyse what you hear and work towards developing a common understanding of what neglect means in Dudley borough. You will not be alone as there will be plenty of friendly, supportive people all sharing and learning together with expert guidance.

25th November - 1st December: Action week

During Action Week we will gather even more information and begin to develop an awareness campaign.

Your committment

Participatory Appraisal techniques are a fantastic string to your bow and you will be able to use the skills that you learn not only throughout this project but for lots of others in the future.

Following your training, all we ask is that you to join us for Try It days and/or Action Week or use your new skills in any other piece of work where you will be able to feed something valuable back to the project.

Who can get involved

youth workers, schools colleges, big companies, health workers, family centres, health champions, faith leaders, community development workers, volunteers, students, street pastors, information champions, community police, mental health teams, community projects & anyone who wants to make a difference!
