Event description

Description

Thrive in the City are passionate about creating a safe, creative, inspiring and physical space for workers and residents in the City of London. Outside of the normal working environment, the space will enable people to be who they are, provide choice, create support networks and leave behind the stigma, hierarchy and pressures of everyday working life.

But before we do that we first need to know what City workers and residents want and what they need. ‘Thrive in the City’ is a programme of events celebrating Mental Health in the City on 27 November 2017 and is being curated in collaboration with Business in the Community, Business Healthy, Mind, Thrive LDN, Minds@Work, City Mental Health Alliance, Team London Bridge and the Dragon Café.

We believe that providing ‘choice’ is an important component to support our mental wellbeing. Our focus is specifically around creating ‘choice’ to both prevent mental ill-health and to offer choice in ways we can support our recovery. Over 60 practitioners and 20 venues have generously donated their time and space on the day for free to explore ways we can offer that ‘choice’ to support ourselves, our friends and our colleagues in the City with their mental wellbeing.

All we ask in return is for you to book onto a free ‘Thrive in the City’ session and give us feedback on the session you attended.

09.00 – 10.30 Evenhood Jonathan Phelan (www.evenhood.org)

In this talk, Jonathan invites the audience to play the role of his boss, teacher, colleague or university tutor. In that role you will be asked to provide support to Jonathan for his mental health challenges. You will hear Jonathan’s emotionally powerful story of the death of his son Theo – an experience which left him with post traumatic stress disorder and, eventually, depression. You will explore the impact of this experience on him and his mental health. And in doing this, you will discover why it is that mental health conversations result in such poor outcomes.

12.00-13.30 Bodyshot Performance Leanne Spencer (www.bodyshotperformance.com

This talk is aimed at busy professionals who have found that the convergent pressures of work and home life have squeezed out the bandwidth they have for health, fitness and wellbeing. They’ve noticed red flags going up in Six Signal® areas, and want to take action without giving up all their spare time or taking on too much additional pressure. Leanne will overview what burnout is, what the signs are and how you can recognise them. We focus on the Six Signals® - sleep, mental health, body composition, energy, digestion and fitness – and how you can use these signals to improve your health, get more sleep, have less stress and feel more in control of your life.
