Event description

Description

Thrive in the City are passionate about creating a safe, creative, inspiring and physical space for workers and residents in the City of London. Outside of the normal working environment, the space will enable people to be who they are, provide choice, create support networks and leave behind the stigma, hierarchy and pressures of everyday working life.

But before we do that we first need to know what City workers and residents want and what they need. ‘Thrive in the City’ is a programme of events celebrating Mental Health in the City on 27 November 2017 and is being curated in collaboration with Business in the Community, Business Healthy, Mind, Thrive LDN, Minds@Work, City Mental Health Alliance, Team London Bridge and the Dragon Café.

We believe that providing ‘choice’ is an important component to support our mental wellbeing. Our focus is specifically around creating ‘choice’ to both prevent mental ill-health and to offer choice in ways we can support our recovery. Over 60 practitioners and 20 venues have generously donated their time and space on the day for free to explore ways we can offer that ‘choice’ to support ourselves, our friends and our colleagues in the City with their mental wellbeing.

All we ask in return is for you to book onto a free ‘Thrive in the City’ session and give us feedback on the session you attended.

11.45 – 12.45 Live Work Well – Susan Peacock (www.liveworkwell.co.uk )

Mindfulness has been found to be very effective in helping develop resilience which underpins the ability to engage with daily life successfully. Our wellbeing is central to how we live our lives and manage our working life. Mindfulness enables you to notice the chatter in your mind, without being driven by it. Our minds play such an important role in terms of our health and happiness, yet we so often allow them to drive us, rather than engaging them effectively. We become aware that thoughts are not necessarily facts. In stepping out of autopilot and developing awareness of certain behaviour patterns, you become equipped to respond more effectively rather than reacting in old familiar ways that don’t serve you – or those around you – well. In many ways mindfulness can be seen as a mental work out – we train the mind to become fitter thus enhancing mental agility. This taster session will be interactive and experiential, we will explore what mindfulness is, discuss some of the neuroscience that underpins it and look at how it may benefit you professionally as well as in your personal life. Come along to the taster session with Susan Peacock, a Chartered Psychologist, coach and mindfulness trainer who will introduce you to Mindfulness and explore how this can be a powerful way of being for you too!
