Thrive: The Vital Importance of Mental Health

Join us for a memorable evening with Richard Layard and David Clark as they explain the vital importance of mental health and what needs to be done to give this much greater priority in our society.

"Professors Layard and Clark (the Dream Team of British Social Science) make a compelling case for a massive injection of resources into the treatment and prevention of mental illness" ~ Martin Seligman

Mental Health Matters

Mental ill-health causes more suffering in our society than physical illness, poverty or unemployment, but the majority of people who need help don't get treatment.

Richard Layard and David Clark will explore the solutions, describe how successful treatments have been developed and explain what works best for whom. They will also urge action to prevent problems occurring in the first place, through better schools and a better society. Above all, they offer real hope for the future.

About The Speakers

Richard Layard is one of the world's leading labour economists. As a member of the House of Lords, he has done much to raise the public profile of mental health. His bestselling 2005 book Happiness has been translated into 20 languages. He is the co-founder of Action for Happiness and co-author of the World Happiness Report.

David M. Clark is professor of Psychology at Oxford and one of the world's leading experts in psychological therapy, responsible for much progress in treatment methods. Along with Richard Layard, he was the main driver behind the UK's Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme.

Layard and Clark's new book Thrive makes a comprehensive and ground-breaking new argument for better treatment of mental health.

"This book is an inspiring success story and a stirring call to further action. Its message is as compelling as it is important"  ~ Daniel Kahneman

"Remarkable... presents the issues in a style that easy for the professional, the general public, and policy makers to understand" ~ Aaron T Beck
