Inside Stories - Speakers

In this series leading advocates for change in the City's attitudes to mental health share their stories to help others find practical ways of thriving in the City.

In our second event in this series we hear from three leading City women who in addition to their successful careers in the City are leading the way in changing attitudes to mental health in the City. They will share insights, stories and learnings before opening up to questions from the audience.

Join these City women for an open discussion on how employers and employees can fulfil their potential and Thrive at Work.

Speaker profiles:

Rebecca George OBE leads Deloitte’s Public Sector practice in the UK. She is responsible for the work Deloitte does across the Public Sector including Health, Education, Transport, Defence, National Security, Justice and Home Affairs, and Central and Local Government.

Rebecca has worked exclusively with the Public Sector since 2001. She is a senior business manager with practical experience of managing businesses and improving operational efficiency. She joined Deloitte as a Partner in 2006 after spending nearly 20 years at IBM in a variety of roles including sales, business process reengineering, and HR, in the UK, EMEA and globally.

Rebecca has been involved in activities to increase the participation of Women in the IT industry since the mid-1990s. She is a VP and Trustee at the BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, where she is a Fellow, and Chairs the Organisation and Employers Board. She is a Liveryman at the Worshipful Company of IT. She is on the Board of the City Mental Health Alliance. She was honoured with an OBE in 2006 for work she did for the Government on Sustainable Communities.

Rebecca Priestley is Chief Executive of Outer Temple Chambers with responsibility for providing strategic leadership, building the business and overall management . Rebecca’s background is as an executive HR Director in banking and a dual-qualified solicitor and barrister with extensive financial services and legal experience.

Rebecca joined Outer Temple Chambers from Lloyds Banking Group, where as People Director, Employee Relations and Policy Transformation, she was a member of the Executive HR Leadership team and the GCE’s Strategic Leadership Group. A particular focus in this role was the promotion of wellbeing across the Group and improving support for those with mental ill health.

Rebecca is a Non-Executive Director on the Board of CMHA, she is passionately committed to supporting women in furthering their careers and to taking effective steps to destigmatise mental ill health.

Fiona Hathorn is Managing Director of Women on Boards in the UK, Peel Hunt Advisor and a Patron of the medical research charity Fight for Sight. She is a passionate angel investor and helped to found one of the first female angel investment clubs. Fiona is one of the judges for The Sunday Times annual NED Awards.

Formerly Fiona was a director of Old Mutual Asset Management and Hill Samuel Asset Management, running the Global Equities and Emerging Markets Desks respectively. In 2012 Fiona decided to launch Women on Boards UK. Women on Boards UK’s aims are simply - to encourage and support women applying for board roles across the Public, Private and Not for Profit Sectors.

With mental health issues affecting her immediate family, Fiona recognises the need for careful work-life balance and the importance of supporting and understanding talented individuals whose minds never seem to stop creating left field game-changing ideas.
