About this event

Taking the mantle from the successful Talent Untapped: BAME Academic Librarians' Knowledge X that took place at UEL in 2019, this event is an opportunity for us to talk about how we can thrive in our careers, whether we are looking to progress into a new role or want to develop in our current one, and includes space for us to recognise the structural barriers that stand in our way.

The programme for the day will include:

  • keynotes from two inspiring women: Sanchia Alasia, Acting Group Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at London South Bank University and Marilyn Clarke, Director of Library Services at Goldsmiths, University of London
  • workshops providing practical support for job applications and creating zines as a method of sharing and exploring our individual experiences
  • a panel Q&A featuring all our contributors, members of the organising committee and invited guests

The event is free and open to anyone who identifies as coming from an ethnic minority background, and we welcome colleagues from across library and information sectors, as well as library and information students. We encourage staff at all grades to attend.

Sponsored Places

We are offering 6 sponsored places to our event. Places are being generously sponsored by ALN, RLUK and SCONUL. Please note: The event is free but the sponsorship could cover travel and/or go towards accommodation costs.

This event is an opportunity for people who identify as belonging to an ethnic minority background to come together to share experiences, be inspired and create a sense of community.

We would like to encourage those who may otherwise experience barriers to attending to apply for a sponsored places.

The recipients of the sponsored places will be asked to produce a personal response to the event. This could be by contributing to social media during the day, producing a blog/vlog post summarising the day or another creative way of showcasing their experiences.

To apply for one of the sponsored places, please email academiclibrariesnorth@sconul.ac.uk, using the email subject ‘ALN sponsored places’ by Friday 29th April 2022 and include the following information:
