Through the Fire (dir. Eunice Lau and Arthur Nazaryan)

The newly made documentary Through the Fire gives unparalleled insights into the life and work of three remarkable Somali women. It was filmed in Hargeisa and Mogadishu. The mission was two fold: to raise awareness of the humanitarian work documented, and to generate urgently needed funds to support these efforts. To achieve this, the producers sought to harness the power of online communications to build a campaign that will extend the reach of the project, engaging the Somali diaspora as well as connecting with international audiences. Through screenings, exhibitions, media outputs, and many other channels besides, the aim is to build widespread support for the peacemaking, development-centred initiatives of these women. A Q & A session will follow the screening with Sarah Winfield, co-producer and, possibly, one of the women profiled in the documentary, Edna Adan, founder of the University Hospital of Somaliland.
