Each week offers a new artistic technique, from gel printing and collage to expressive watercolour and mark making - all suitable for complete beginners and returning creatives.
The final session will bring everything together with a simple handbound book made from papers created in previous sessions, giving participants the chance to reflect on their experiences and take home a completed project.
Sessions will be presented in a warm, welcoming, friendly atmosphere - with a jug or two of non-alcoholic mocktails to encourage conversation and creative courage. The aim is to create an inclusive, accessible event for everybody.
No experience needed, just curiosity and a sense of adventure! Materials and Mocktails provided. Please note this event is running as part of a six week course running every Thursday evening 2/10/2025 - 6/11/25.
Session Plan
Week 1: Let Loose with Line
Playful warmups and abstract markmaking to break the ice. Variety of tools and media, including pencil, crayon, charcoal.
Week 2: Paint in Flow
Experimental watercolour, play with Inktense crayons and Brusho to
make backgrounds. Loose painting eg florals or birds using blobs of
colour
Week 3: Print Party
Gel plate printing using recycled materials and interesting packaging.
Attempt image transfer experiments. Stamping and adding details over
the top. Making stamps using craft foam and upcycled card.
Week 4: Cut, Paste, Create
Collage from papers already made, junk mail, magazines, etc. Theme:
‘take your scissors for a walk’ (on paper).
Week 5: Make your Mark & Artist Trading Cards (ATCs)
Adding marks and layers to previously made papers to complete pieces.
Making small tags or ATCs to swap with other participants (masterboard
or grid method using a limited pallette?)
Week 6: Book binding
Create a simple book using favourite pieces from the course (book
binding or comb binding). A satisfying finale and something complete to
take away.
