A night to celebrate the very best contemporary YA fiction with two important voices in the genre.Tia's first novel Crossing the Line was a verse novel based on the true story of a boy caught up in county line exploitation. It won the YOTO Carnegie Shadowers choice award 2024, was chosen for Read with Empathy 2024 and was The Times Children's book of the week. Her new book Not Going to Plan is a powerful verse novel about sexual consent, unplanned pregnancy and the breaking of taboos.Tia will be joined by Kelly McCaughrain is a YA writer from Belfast and was the Seamus Heaney Children’s Writing Fellow for Northern Ireland 2019-21. Her novel, Little Bang (Walker Books), won the Children’s Books Ireland Junior Juries’ Award and Honour Award for Fiction and was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal as well as being an Empathy Lab ‘Reads for Empathy Collection’ Choice.Tia and Kelly will discuss the power of teen literature to educate, spark conversations and to inspire empathy.
