Tian-Tsui - Chinese feather art Workshop
Overview
In this workshop, we will explore a fascinating form of traditional Chinese jewelry
— Tian-tsui.
Historically, Tian-tsui were crafted using kingfisher feathers, gold
wires, pearls, and gemstones. The delicate feathers reflected sunlight in shimmering
shades of blue and green, giving each piece a radiant, lifelike beauty.
However, as the process required kingfisher feathers, it caused significant harm to
the birds and led to their decline. As a result, the art of Tian-tsui gradually faded
away in the late Qing dynasty.
Today, we will rediscover this beautiful traditional craft in an ethical and creative
way — using modern materials to recreate the elegance of Tian-tsui and experience
how ancient artisans once brought these exquisite works of art to life.
