Trauma-Informed Practice Training

Trauma-informed practice is an approach to care, services, and support that recognises the widespread impact of trauma on individuals and communities. It aims to create environments that promote healing, build resilience, and reduce the risk of re-traumatisation.

This approach is grounded in an understanding of how trauma affects people’s behaviour, relationships, and long-term wellbeing. It is based on five core principles:

  • Safety
  • Trustworthiness
  • Collaboration
  • Choice
  • Empowerment

This training is funded by Public Health Bradford as part of a district-wide commitment to embed trauma-informed practice across services.

What is Tier 1?

Tier 1: Trauma-Informed Practice is an introduction to trauma-informed approaches. It covers the foundational theories of adversity, trauma and resilience, along with practical strategies for applying these in your everyday work. This session is ideal for those new to the topic or seeking a strong grounding in trauma-informed thinking.

What is Tier 2?

Tier 2: Trauma-Responsive Practice builds on the learning from Tier 1. It goes deeper into the science of trauma, including different types of trauma, neurological impacts, and more advanced strategies for trauma-responsive practice.
Completion of Tier 1 is required before attending Tier 2.

Why are we offering this training?

Resilient Bradford recognises that understanding and acknowledging trauma is a vital step in addressing the challenges faced by individuals and communities. This training supports professionals and organisations in responding more effectively to trauma while helping build resilience across the district.

What will participants learn?

Participants will gain:

  • A deeper understanding of childhood and adult adversity, and how it can impact individuals over time
  • Skills to recognise and respond to trauma in ways that support recovery and lead to positive outcomes
  • Practical approaches to building resilience and supporting healing
  • An understanding of how to apply the principles of trauma-informed practice—trust, safety, collaboration, choice, and empowerment—in real-world settings

Resilient Bradford is funded by Public Health in Bradford and hosted by Bradford Trident. Our goal is to equip the Bradford workforce and wider community with the knowledge and skills to recognise, address, and prevent trauma.
