Three marvellous mavericks bring you sound alchemy, microtonal vibrations and unexpected sonic surprises.

Tim Shaw

Part musician, part magician, part sound collector and more, Tim Shaw is a sound alchemist, always surprising and mesmerizing to watch.

This time, Tim brings us Rotation – a performative installation built around the fundamental act of spinning sound-producing objects. Across the performance space, spark gaps, loudspeakers, and other sonic devices are suspended and set into motion through straightforward electro-mechanical means. As they rotate, these seemingly simple mechanisms generate a richly layered sound environment, shaped in dialogue with the surrounding architecture. The performance combines high-voltage sparks, bursts of indoor pyrotechnics, sculptural electronics, and interactions between light and sound.

Jorge Boehringer

Jorge Boehringer’s solo exploration (collectively titled ‘Core of the Coalman’) sounds microtonal vibrations and feedback to excite emergent vibratory behaviours and textures. These days, they tend to perform using a realistic keyboard, a silver mixer, a wooden viola, Tibetan bells, all colours of whistles, and occasionally motors and circuit junk like computers. Loudspeakers are a much beloved ingredient.

Richard Scott

Richard Scott is an artist and musician based in Newcastle. In his multi-medium practice, Richard is interested in the nuances and contradictions which ostensibly opposing organising principles and perceptual paradigms can generate in relation to each other: order and disorder, form and content, modularity and singularity, repetition and variation, control and a lack thereof…

As a musician, Richard plays contemporary experimental, often improvised and primarily on the viola and (sometimes tabletop) guitar. He has performed and recorded in the UK and across Europe, and played in regular groups with Tapiwa Svosve, Silvan Schmid, Eddie Prévost, Angharad Davies, Hannah Marshall, Sarah Farmer, Andrew Woodhead and many others. Richard co-runs the label Physical Correlate.
