Join us for a talk by Paul Newman, the Technical Director from the Structural Timber Association; this session will demonstrate how the STA Volume 1 Pattern Book can be used to specify structural timber elements that meet the requirements of Approved Document B (England) and move on to explain how the Volume 2 Cavity barriers and fire stopping publication provides essential information for the entire project team. The session will cover key research undertaken to underpin both publications and highlight their limitations in use. Paul is happy to take questions throughout, so come armed with any general or specific project related queries to pick his brains!

This is the first of a two-part talk, the second session will follow in November.

About the RIBA East Small Practice Network: This successful network was set up in response to requests from small or emerging practices, often sole practitioners, for a friendly and supportive forum where those with less experience and opportunities to network might meet to share thoughts and experiences. Now running for nearly 5 years, the network’s co-chairs host monthly online meetings which often include engaging guest speakers or informal CPD sessions in addition to networking, and two in-person events a year supported by the RIBA Local Initiative Funding. The network is open to sole practitioners or small practices with five employees or less, located within the eastern region.
