Description

Time, Economy and Everyday Life: reflections on Raqs Media Collective’s Twilight Language

Thursday 1 February, 6pm

Study Centre

An exploration of some of the themes that Twilight Language provocatively invokes with Ismail Ertürk (Alliance Manchester Business School), Aashish Velkar (University of Manchester) and Mary Griffiths (the Whitworth). In Navigations Mary will take an illustrated and wandering walk through the history of Manchester and the making of Twilight Language with Raqs Media Collective. Ismail will reflect on the contestable conditions of confused and unrealistic neo-liberal calculations that ordinary people are forced to make on their present and future financial well-being in financialised capitalism of today. Aashish will bring a historical dimension to the economic thought of political elites affecting ordinary people’s lives by looking at nationalism and economic planning in India during the twentieth century with considerations on the interactions of time and space. A Q&A session will follow the presentations.
