Time to make zines
Overview
Take time to relax and get creative with a 1 and a half hour zine making workshop led by Hana Ayoob. We will be using a single sheet of paper to create a pamphlet exploring a topic of your choice. We will also take some time to explore the history and present of zines - small self-published magazines or pamphlets which are usually produced in small numbers for no or minimal profit.
This session is inspired by the Radical Nurses Group, which is featured in the "The Art of Nursing" exhibition. Founded in 1980 by a group of nurses determined to make improvements to their profession and their patients’ lives, they used printed materials with innovative designs to promote direct action and challenge perceptions of nurses as silent, respectable and apolitical.
What you'll need:
- 1 sheet of plain A4 or A3 paper. This should ideally be white or a light plain colour, but we can also work with lined or gridded paper
- Some scrap paper
- A pair of
scissors - A pen or
pencil - Colouring pencils and felt tips
- Collage materials such as old magazines or leaflets, stickers
