About this event
Welcome to Time to Sing! with Capital Chorus. Over five Monday evenings you will develop your vocal technique to sing a cappella in 4-part close harmony with a friendly group of singers, in the barbershop style. The course ends with an optional small performance to friends and family.
All materials are included and you don't need to be able to read music!
The course runs from 7.45-10PM on Monday 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29th September. The £15 fee covers all five weeks (equivalent to only £3/session!).
Please note this course is for male voices only: we can give details of similar female and mixed choirs if needed.
Frequently asked questions
No! We provide audio tracks to help you learn the music, as well as sheet music for those who prefer this. Many of our members don't read music.
Not if you don't want to! You will be part of a section with other singers. We will ask you to have a brief voice test with our friendly director at some point, but this is just to determine which voice part (bass, baritone, lead or tenor) suits you - there's no judgement!
No! Many of our members have sung in choirs before, but it is by no means essential.
That's no problem! We think you will gain most by coming to most or all of the sessions, but we're sure you'll still benefit even if you miss one or two weeks.

Yes, we are a male voice choir so the course is only open to those with male voices. Other mixed and female voice choirs in London run similar courses - for example, check out capitalconnection.org.uk .
We have a varied repertoire including jazz, rock, pop, sea shanties and traditional barbershop songs. Check out our videos at https://www.youtube.com/@capitalchorus1828 to see some of the things we sing.
In the last week of the course we will have a small performance for friends and family, so they can see (and hear) what you have learnt. If you enjoy it we hope you'll want to consider singing more regularly, either with us or another choir.
No! We encompass a variety of faiths and none. The methodist church is just a convenient rehearsal venue.
