Description
“TimeSlips” creative storytelling training
for artists and care professionals working with older people living with dementia
Tuesday 14 March, 11am to 3.30pm
Tea/coffee available at 10.30am
A creative storytelling training day led by internationally renowned artist and educator Anne Basting, Professor of Theatre at the University of Wisconsin / Milwaukee and a 2016 MacArthur Fellow.
In 1996 Anne Basting was curious...could improvisation and creative drama techniques that were so powerful for healthy older adults prove helpful for people with dementia? After trying many reminiscence-based techniques, Anne shifted toward imagination - and the improvisation sessions took off.
Since then TimeSlips as an approach has been refined and developed, and is now used in care communities, museums, libraries, older people’s centres and individual homes in 41 US states and 12 countries including the UK.
This is an exciting opportunity for health/care professionals, artists and cultural organisations to come together to find out more about a successful international approach to embedding creativity in care provision. The day will be informative, interactive and fun!
Accredited training is available online, and participants in this day-long course will have the opportunity to take part in the online course afterwards at a discounted rate. However this is not essential, and the Edinburgh training day is designed as a standalone session.
The TimeSlips’ approach is evidence-based, award-winning, person-centred and joyful. It is used by care professionals and artists in older people’s services and care homes around the world.
Don’t miss this is exciting opportunity to train with TimeSlips’ founder during her short visit to Scotland.
“TimeSlips opens storytelling to everyone by replacing the pressure to remember with the freedom to imagine.”
Anne will also talk about her experience of using creative engagement to improve the lives of older people at a public lecture on Monday 13 March 2017 at Queen Margaret University. To find out more about this event and book your free place, please click here.
