Event description

Description

Bedminster Energy Group are really excited to be hosting a talk by Jackson Moulding, Director of Ecomotive, a self build and custom build social enterprise:

Interested in alternative housing solutions where you have some control over the home you live in, or interested in the creation, design and build of that home, or even interested in what solutions are out there to help address the crazy housing crisis?

There are ambitious housing targets across the country, including in Bristol. But could the rush to address the housing crisis by building thousands of developer built homes using a business as usual model, mean we lose the chance of really creating the change we would like to see.

How can we build homes which have high environmental performance, are of high quality, are built with low impact materials, are low energy, improve social connectivity, create resilient communities, are affordable, enable people to be creative? From tiny homes to community land trusts, from cohousing to cooperatives, there are fantastic developments around the world which do just this. Come and find out more.

Jackson has been involved in community housing for the last 17 years, has helped set up the Ashley Vale project in St Werburghs, helped set up the Bristol Community Land Trust which has just completed its first project of 12 affordable homes in Fishponds through self finish. He is currently part of the team creating a 'community led housing hub' for Bristol, and is leading a modular custom build home design called SNUG homes.

With a bit of help from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, Jackson travelled to Japan last November, and over the summer Jackson travelled to various places in N.America to see what solutions they have come up with.

From Toronto to Detroit, Vancouver to Vancouver Island and the San Juan Islands, Seattle, Portland, Corvallis and San Francisco, exploring projects along the way.

Come for an informal insight into how YOU can be part of the housing solution.
