Description

It’s a long way to Tipperary: Half-term Youth theatre week.

Week overview:

Enjoy acting? Aged 11-16? Live in Tameside or surrounding area? This October half-term why not join fellow drama enthusiasts in creating and performing an original play based upon Stalybridge through two world wars.

War time marching favourite song, ‘It’s a long long way to Tipperary’ was written and first performed here in Stalybridge by Jack Judge over a hundred years ago. To celebrate his incredible achievement, as well as incorporating memories of the Second World War from local residents, we are producing an original play to commemorate Remembrance Day.

Under the guidance of a professional playwright and director; we will be using a range of drama techniques and theatre forms to devise a play in four days, culminating in a showcase performance to carers, friends, families and the local community.

  • Experience the buzz of working with an ensemble youth theatre company;
  • Make new friends and grow your confidence;
  • Create an original play in a week.

A typical day will consist of:

  • Sign up and greetings;
  • Warm up exercises;
  • Group building exercises;
  • Acting techniques;
  • Exploring source material;
  • Devising scenes;
  • Scripted work;
  • Closure exercise;
  • Feedback.

The day will include breaks with snacks provided (please state diet intolerances where necessary).

Participants will not be allowed to leave the premises (without parental/guardian written permission) during breaks or lunch.
