Our webinars will be held monthly and will welcome industry experts to talk about a wide range of mammals and all things mammal related.

Dr Robyn Grant will be hosting our next webinar posing the question “Why do mammals have whiskers?”, a talk all about animal whiskers – from the mouse’s moustache to the walrus’s whiskers. She will cover what whiskers are and what they are for, and also let you know which species have the best and most specialised whiskers. The talk will finish with a question and answer session by those attending the webinar, so if you have any questions relating to whiskers and mammalian sensing get them ready to be answered! Robyn is a Senior Lecturer in Comparative Physiology and Behaviour at Manchester Metropolitan University. She is a sensory biologist, studying the sense of touch in mammals and birds. She works closely with museums and zoos to better understand the form and function of facial sensors.

Organised by

We are the only organisation involved in the study and conservation of all British mammals - from dormice to dolphins, and bats to badgers. We support a growing network of amateur and professional mammalogists and conservationists working for mammals across the country and abroad, and provide a hub of information and expertise. We are the national voice for mammal conservation, working to identify the threats mammals face and halt declines before it’s too late; we provide scientific advice to advocate sound conservation policies based on thorough research and surveying; and we inform and educate people of all ages to raise awareness of mammal conservation issues.

THE MAMMAL SOCIETY IS VAT REGISTERED BUT WE ARE AN ELIGIBLE BODY SO OUR TRAINING & EVENTS ARE VAT EXEMPT.
