SHORT FILM: A STORY LEFT BEHIND

A young British-Somali researcher discovers a record of the first Somali woman to live in Sheffield and fills in the gaps of her story.

Dir: Asma Kabadeh

Dur: 14m

Workshop: Asma Kabadeh

Asma will take participants on a brief journey through the Sheffield and Tower Hamlets archives to uncover post-war Somali migration. This workshop will bring together historical records and personal memory, mapping the legacy of Somali presence in these localities. The workshop will ask us to critically examine archival representations for Somali & wider diasporic communities and challenge the dominance of public records as the sole source of history.
