To a More Ambitious Place 2014/15: London
Event Information
Description
London Debate: Do we accept the status quo in place?
'How have you let this happen?' we heard from a young placemaker at our debate in Liverpool two years ago, as he reflected on the effects of poor placemaking. How has our culture determined how we make places? Have we demanded enough of ourselves? If we were more proactive, would our ambitions become a reality?
Speakers:
• Alastair Donald, British Council Project Director, British Pavilion, Venice Architecture Biennale
• Leslie Barson, Project Team, London Community Housing Co-operative
• Andrew Carter, Acting Chief Executive, Centre for Cities
Chair: Sophia de Sousa, Chief Executive, The Glass-House Community Led Design
Venue: B304 - LT1, UCL Cruciform Building, Gower Street, WC1E 6BT

More about The Glass-House Debate Series 2014/15
In partnership with The Open University and The Academy of Urbanism, The Glass-House Debate Series 2014/15 ‘To a More Ambitious Place’ seeks to question and explore our ambitions for our places.
How can we achieve our ambitions for our places and what are those things – in our culture, governance and practice – that are stopping us from fulfilling our goals?
Our Series brings together a diverse audience and a range of perspectives in placemaking to debate the issues, challenge thinking and stimulate lively discussion in four cities:
Glasgow
Does practice make perfect in place?
Sheffield
Do the right people have power in place?
Bristol
Is our view of place short-sighted?
London
Do we accept the status quo in place?
