In September, our focus will be:
"To exit, or not to exit? The true cost of selling your business"
With Daniel Keighron-Foster - MD of cloud consultancy STEAMHAUS
Ask any business owner what their long-term plan is, and the majority will say to make a successful exit.
After all, they're likely to be sacrificing their personal life, family life and enjoying many sleepless nights, so why shouldn’t they see a handsome return for all their efforts?
Some business owners don’t find it that straight forward though.
Daniel Keighron-Foster has been in exactly this position. Back in 2012, he sold the web hosting business - Melbourne - that he’d established 12 years earlier for £7m. While that sounds like a fantastic result, it didn’t come without its challenges - both practically and emotionally.
Daniel is now MD of the successful cloud consultancy Steamhaus however, he’s never really talked about his exit from Melbourne. For the first time, Daniel will share his story and take us through his thoughts on how to deal with the challenges that you will face if you find yourself contemplating an exit.
He’ll specifically cover the emotional aspects of handing over the reins of a business you’ve built from scratch, and also what you can be doing right now to increase the chances of a smooth exit and maximising the price when you do.
How does the evening run?
After some coffees (or beers) to get us settled in, we will spend sometime with to Daniel hear about his experiences and then taking questions to expand the discussion further. The main points are then de-briefed and a short peer-learning activity is set for the Giants to work on in small groups. We then come back together to share the main learnings and each Giant is tasked with identifying the one thing they will take back to the workplace.
We do have a few house rules
- No selling - it's not a battle to pass your card to everyone in the room
- Owners/Senior team only - by keeping it at this level, you can be sure you'll be learning along side your peers
- Have fun & learn something new
What does it cost?
If it's your first time, it's free! If you're returning, then it's £25, but once the cost of tea's and coffees are taken for, the rest goes directly to charity - usually as much as £180 per event.
