50 years ago, John Young and Charlie Duke landed on the Moon on Apollo 16...
About this event
The Lecture: In April 1972, Apollo 16 almost didn't land on the Moon. Against many odds and a fair share of misfortune, John Young, Charlie Duke and Ken Mattingly flew one of the most successful missions to our nearest celestial neighbour. They explored the mountainous Descartes Highlands, travelled farther and climbed higher on the Moon's surface than any previous crew and performed comprehensive scientific observations which are still being examined today. Fifty years on, Apollo 16 continues to stand testament to the strength and fallibility of humans when we dare to be bold.
The Speaker: Ben Evans has been fascinated by astronomy and space exploration since childhood. He has written 11 books for the Springer-Praxis imprint and currently writes for AmericaSpace
