About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Join us for a poetry writing workshop with Irish poet and writer Seán Hewitt. In this workshop, you will pay close, intense attention to the materiality of the world, looking curiously and repeatedly at physical objects to make poems that can be endlessly re-made. Through writing, reading, cutting and pasting, you will explore the possibilities of language to create meaning and mystery, unlocking the secrets of the written word and harnessing them. Participants do not need a background in poetry, just a curiosity about craft and language.

Seán’s work delves deeply into themes of identity, queerness, nature and loss. His collections, Tongues of Fire and Rapture’s Road, have won critical praise and awards including the Laurel Prize and the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. Hewitt’s memoir, All Down Darkness Wide, and novel, Open, Heaven, expand on these themes.

Hewitt also collaborated with artist Luke Edward Hall on 300,000 Kisses: Tales of Queer Love from the Ancient World, blending art, poetry and history to explore queer narratives through time. A lecturer at Trinity College Dublin and Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, Hewitt’s teaching embraces curiosity and craft.

All materials will be provided.
