TOAST | Tapestry Weaving with Alicia Scardetta from Textile Arts Center, NY

About this Event
During this workshop, you will learn how to create your own loom from a picture frame and learn how to weave. We will review how to warp the frame looms, how to weave plain weave & pile weave, and experiment with colour and texture. No previous tapestry weaving experience is required.
Materials required:
- Frame: Either stretcher bars measuring 12” L and assembled into a frame OR a picture frame that measures about 10"w x 12"h with a depth no larger than 1.5”. If using a picture frame it must be the frame only. Remove the glass and any other materials that are within the frame.
- Tapestry needle
- 100% cotton yarn
- A variety of yarns you’d like to weave with.
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pen or pencil

Alicia Scardetta is a Brooklyn-based, South Texas-born fiber artist. Alicia was introduced to weaving through a studio internship at the Textile Arts Center while studying Fine Art at Pratt Institute. She further developed her technical skills in tapestry at Haystack School of Crafts and Penland School of Crafts. Rooted in experimentation, Alicia's signature style features bold color palettes and inventive techniques honed over ten years of experience weaving.
Textile Arts Center (TAC) is an NYC-based resource facility dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of textiles through creative educational programs for children and adults. At TAC, they aspire to unite the textile community and advocate for the handmade by providing accessible, skills-based classes that reinvigorate engagement with traditional crafts.
