A poignant tale of love and loss, duty and sacrifice

During WW1, The Battle of Aubers Ridge cost the town of Northampton dearly as its menfolk were brutally sacrifi ced in a futile engagement.

This powerful and gripping performance transports you to 1914 and the world of the men, women and families who were affected. Through their journey from the sunny and optimistic spring of 1914 to its inevitable, awful outcome, you will come to know them, love them and respect them, before you have no choice but to mourn those who perished, and pity those who were left behind.

Toby Thompson has appeared at most major UK festivals and regularly on the spoken word circuit, and written numerous commissions, including for the RSC , the Royal & Derngate Theatre in Northampton, and Bath-based charity “5x5x5=creativity”.

His extended performance poem “A Day to Remember” is part of a 2018 tour, and he is currently an Incubator scholar at the egg (Theatre Royal Bath) where he has been commissioned to write a new work for young audiences.
