Event description

Description

She Shanties and Todmorden Folk Festival are bringing the very finest shanty singers from all over the UK to The Unitarian Church for an epic shanty day.

We couldn't be prouder to present 4 acts for a full day of singing. Expect sumptouos harmonies and plenty of laughs along the way!

Teacups Trio -

Comprising the singing talents of Kate Locksley (Night Fall), Rosie Calvert (Speldosa) and Will Finn, the a capella trio (usually a foursome with Alex Cumming), have been creating a storm across the UK festival circuit in the past few years with critically acclaimed performances at festivals and folk clubs up and down the UK and beyond.

The Longest Johns -

The Longest Johns are a Bristol based, a capella folk music band, born out of a mutual love of traditional folk songs and shanties. They rock maritime songs alongside the more unusual and less traditional folk tunes. After becoming a five-man group in 2015, they've taken their harmonies to new heights, whilst always retaining just the right mix of quality and hilarity. Whether performing songs that are hundreds of year old, or their own original creations, the Johns bring a new feel to audiences wherever they go.

She Shanties -

This twelve piece women’s shanty crew not only make it obvious that they enjoy a good sing, but they do it ever so well with verve and enterprise. And that joy is conveyed to the audience in buckets!

Kimbers Men -

Audiences everywhere, rave over the harmonies of Kimber’s men. They have appeared at Festivals in Europe, and all over the UK. Featured twice on Sunday brunch for Channel 4, they also starred in the BBC2 and BBC4 production of Sea Songs, with Gareth Malone.

Expect to laugh, sing and be generally entertained.

Todmorden Folk Festival will also be providing a bar and refreshments, including hot food and cake, throughout the day.

This event will be family friendly. The Unitarian Church has step-free access and a disabled toilet however it is up a very steep hill. Car access is for disabled ticket holders only but allows access very close to the front door. For more information on access email sheshanties@gmail.com.
