Event description

Description

Toileting is a fundamental occupation that people typically learn when they are a child and as Occupational Therapists we routinely ask how a client manages with toileting. The focus of this session is to widen Occupational Therapist’s knowledge and understanding of how children develop continence of bowel and bladder; an awareness of the continence difficulties facing children with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, autsim and complex needs; what is really meant by being ‘continence ready’ and common bowel and bladder training approaches.

This session will be led by Michelle Newton, Bowel and Bladder Specialist Nurse working in Gateshead. Michelle has been recognised and received awards for her work with children, teenagers and families.

The aim of the session is to increase therapist’s awareness and knowledge base of typical child development with regards to toileting and to discuss pathways of care and the role of Occupational Therapists for children with bowel and bladder difficulties.

This event is FREE to CYPF members and Student members. Please bring your membership number with you.

There will be a £10 charge for non-members (cash only taken on the day).
