This online event aims to create a safe and inclusive space where those who identify as men can openly share their experiences, challenges, and triumphs. It's an opportunity to break down stereotypes, challenge societal norms, and foster empathy.

The theme for this session is going to be ‘The Pressure of Being the Breadwinner’.

For generations, men have been told their worth is tied to what they earn, how much they provide, and how well they protect. Even as society evolves, that message runs deep — shaping our sense of identity, success and failure.

Our Male Allyship research, released earlier this year, found that not being able to provide for their family was men’s second biggest fear in the workplace. That fear isn’t just financial; it’s emotional. It’s about expectations, pride, and the quiet pressure to hold everything together, even when the weight feels too heavy.

In this Brave Space, we’ll explore what it means to carry that pressure — and what happens when it begins to crack. We’ll talk honestly about money, purpose, and the changing definition of success. We’ll ask how the “breadwinner” narrative still shapes men’s behaviour at work and at home — and how it can hold us back from more balanced, connected lives.

Through open and vulnerable conversation, we’ll reflect on how we can release ourselves from these outdated expectations and redefine what it means to provide: not just financially, but emotionally and relationally.

Because true strength isn’t about carrying the burden alone — it’s about creating space for others to share it with you.

The format for each session will be as follows:

• Introduction through sharing a feeling using the Feelings wheel
• Discussion in pairs to discuss those feelings to engage empathy and create connection
• Full group discussion
• Anything else anyone would like to bring up

The rules of the room will be as follows:

• Chatham House rules - you can share stories but they can’t be attributed to a single person (simply because stories is how we shape change)
• Cameras on
• Share the air
• Respect each other
• Be kind
• Be Present
