About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Come join us on zoom on 26th June at 1600 BST to discuss the importance of male allyship in the workplace. Expect to come away with a much better understanding of what it means to be an ally to inclusion and diversity, the key barriers that currently exist to men and some ideas on how to better support and inspire the men in your business to become better allies . More context below:

    Background

When we founded Token Man just under a decade ago, it was because we realised that no minority in history has ever affected change without the support of the majority. Which meant that, when it came to gender equality and wider inclusion and diversity of all historically marginalised groups, we needed men to step up and get actively involved. However we are just not seeing enough men stepping forward and making a real difference - our Things People Say research found that respondents felt that on average only 44% of male employees were acting as active allies in the workplace.

So what is getting in the way of men becoming better allies to inclusion, equity and diversity. And what does active allyship actually mean? It certainly needs to be a long way from the performative allyship that is often so fleeting and often very damaging as it gives the impression that progress is being made when in fact that system is still very much the same.

Hosted by Daniele Fiandaca, Co-founder of Token Man, our wonderful panel will discuss what it means to be a true male ally and how allyship can be a powerful tool for creating change. Our confirmed panellist are:

    • Lee Chambers (he/him), Founder, Essentialise
    • Lori Meakin (she/her), Founder & CEO, The Others & Me and Author, No More Menemies
    • Mick Trichenese (he/him), Software Engineering Chapter Lead at UBS and Sponsor, UK Male Allies Network

    Expect to come away with:

    • A much better understanding of what it means to be an ally to inclusion and diversity
    • An understanding of the key barriers are to more men becoming active allies and providing the tools to allow more men to lean in and become meaningful allies
    • An appreciation of the the importance of cultural intelligence to becoming better allies
    • Ideas and actions that you can start doing immediately to become a better ally

This event forms part of a wider series of Token Man panel sessions which can be found HERE.
