This workshop is for HR Business Partners and 1st in Line Workforce Specialists only. Ideally your HRD will have been to Workshop 1 for HRDs.

Following on from Dr Pat Oakley’s session at last year’s HPMA London conference ‘Tomorrow’s World’ and in the light of NHS England’s Long Term Plan and Baroness Dido Harding’s Strategic Workforce Development Committee’s requirements, we have invited Pat back to the HPMA London Academy to run a series of 3 half day workshops to support workforce functions develop their strategic workforce planning skills.

Assumptions include: the local Strategic Transformation Partnerships (STPs) and Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) will become the management vehicle for developing an integrated sustainable workforce strategy, and that the Long Term Plan’s priorities become the shaping force for developing local service and workforce plans.


Workshop 2 is for HR Business Partners and 1st in Line Workforce Specialists. It will develop HR Business Partners and 1st in Line Workforce Specialists’ technical skills and knowledge concerning their future roles and responsibilities in working with Clinical Directors and Service Managers to develop their service’s business and workforce planning submission to the Trust Board and local STP/ICS Workforce Development Group.

This session will be followed on 1 October by a session for Workforce Planning Specialists which will develop Trusts’ Workforce Planning Specialists’ technical skills and knowledge concerning their future roles and responsibilities in checking/auditing the ESR data sets and preparing the required workforce data, and developing the Trusts’, and the STPs’/ICSs’, informatics strategy; PLEASE BOOK ON THIS SEPERATELY

Facilitator

Dr. Patricia Oakley PhD (Organisational Psychology), MBA (London). Dr. Patricia Oakley is a Strategic Service and Workforce Policy Analyst and Development Specialist, and Workforce Research Fellow at King’s College, London University. She was awarded HPMA's Lifetime Achievement Award 2016

Examples of recent work

i) Supporting DH, HEE and NHS England’s Policy Programmes: Children’s and Young People’s Services Workforce Review; 7 Day Services Workforce Review; Cardiac Care and Echo Services Workforce Review; the Genomics Workforce Strategy; and the role of predictive analytics in scheduling urgent care.
ii) Leading the DH’s Healthcare Science Doctoral Programme at King’s College, London, to support the development of England’s healthcare science workforce modelling procedures, policies and analytical methodology.
iii) Building, with specialist colleagues, strategic workforce risk assessment and planning models and preparing strategic workforce investment plans for senior management teams and national policy-makers, e.g. medical, pharmacy, midwifery, nursing, management and scientific workforces.
iv) Developing evidence for national-level policies in assessing the potential impact of commercial enterprises (multi-national and small businesses) on health service delivery, and the implications for the future of professional groups in the 21st Century.
v) Supporting local board and clinical leadership development programmes, and delivering policy masterclasses as part of local staff and cross-sector leadership development programmes.

In the event that you’re not able to attend, please let us know within 5 working days of the event or we will charge a £100 cancellation fee regardless of the reason given for cancellation or non-attendance. We know that there are many good reasons why people are not able to attend HPMA London events they have booked on, however the cost per attendee at an HPMA London Academy can be as much as £200. We use the income generated by cancellation fees to deliver our events programme in the next financial year. If you want to appeal against a cancellation fee, please contact the team for a copy of the cancellation fee appeal form which will need to be signed by your line manager and returned within 14 days of the event.

There are 20 places on this event. We want to ensure that all member organisations have access to our events. If an event is overbooked and the maximum attendance has been reached from a particular trust, the events team may need to cancel any further places that are booked. The team will then email individuals who have booked after the maximum number has been reached.
