About this event

With thanks to the TRC Social Committee, we’re delighted to release tickets for our first Summer Awayday!

We will be climbing Ben Nevis on Saturday 22 June. Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles, standing at 1,345 meters (4,413 feet) tall. Located in the Scottish Highlands near the town of Fort William, it offers stunning panoramic views.

If you intend to make your own way, please be ready to meet us at 10:30 outside the Ben Nevis Vistor Centre.

All who are attending will need to cover their own costs for travel, food and accommodation. We have suggested some travel options below but you're free to make your own way there!

Getting there

Caledonian Sleeper from London Euston on Friday 21 June at 21:15.

  • Cheapest seats at time of writing are £55 one-way
  • Classic rooms are around £300, and club rooms are almost £500!
  • Train arrives into Fort William on Saturday 22 June at 10am
  • The meeting point at the Ben Nevis Centre is about 20 mins away from Fort William.

The climb

  • We intend to begin the climb soon after we meet up at 10:30 on Saturday 22 June.
  • Our route will be the Mountain Track, which is the easiest one for novices.
  • We estimate to climb up/down will take around 7 hours, so should be finished by 17:00.

Accommodation on Saturday 22 June

Unfortunately, there’s no sleeper service on Saturday(!!!) or any other train service heading back to London from there on Saturday night. Please book your own accommodation but for info, some of us will be booking into Ossians Hotel (£95 for basic double room), if you wish to join us there, book direct via their website: Ossians Hotel.

Return to London

Two options you may wish to consider for the return on Sunday are:

(1) get regular train back from Fort William at 11:40am on Sunday 23 June, which will arrive back at Euston at 21:40 that night. Advance tickets are currently priced at £44!

(2) get the Caledonian Sleeper later in the evening at 19:00 on Sunday night, which will arrive back at Euston on Monday morning at 8am. Cost for that is currently around the £55 mark.
