This year to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, The Josef Herman Foundation and the WCIA warmly invite you to an evening of discussions about home, displacement and refuge.

Josef Herman was a Jewish artist who fled his native Poland due to the rise of anti-Semitism prior to the Second World War. Josef lost his entire family in the Holocaust. He found his “home from home” in Ystradgynlais, where he became a familiar face in the community and was known affectionately as “Joe Bach”.

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day this year is “Torn from Home”. This event will focus on stories from those who have sought refuge in Wales and the communities they have joined. Ystradgynlais has been a place of sanctuary from Josef Herman’s time until the present day. It was one of the first places in Wales to accept Syrian refugees. The event will explore the role that Wales has in providing a place of refuge and what can be learnt from those seeking asylum in Wales.

During the course of the evening, three short films will be screened. These films have been made though a collaboration between local schools, the Syrian families who have moved to Ystradgynlais, The Welfare Ystradgynlais, Michael Sheen, Ffilm Cymru and the Cardiff based animation company Winding Snake.

Food and Drink will be served.

I nodi Diwrnod Cofio'r Holocost eleni, mae Sefydliad Josef Herman a'r WCIA yn eich gwahodd i noson o drafodaeth am gartref, dadleoli a lloches.

Arlunudd Iddewig oedd Josef Herman, wedi ffoi o'i gartref o Wlad Pwyl yn ystod yr Ail Rhyfel Byd, pan oedd teimliadau gwrth Iddewig yn cynnyddu. Gollodd Josef Herman ei deulu cyfan yn y Holocost. Darganfodd ei gynefin yn Ystradgynlais lle gafodd ei dderbyn gyda croeso cynnes, daeth yn wyneb cyfarwydd yn y gymuned a elwir yn "Joe Bach".

Thema Diwrnod Cofio'r Holocost eleni yw "Rhwygo o’u Cartref”. Bydd y digwyddiad hwn yn canolbwyntio ar straeon gan y rheiny sydd wedi ceisio lloches yng Nghymru a'r cymunedau y maent wedi ymuno â hwy. Bu Ystradgynlais yn lloches ers amser Josef Herman hyd heddiw. Yma oedd un o'r lleoedd cyntaf yng Nghymru i dderbyn ffoaduriaid o Syria. Bydd y digwyddiad yn edrych ar y rôl sydd gan Gymru wrth ddarparu lle lloches a'r hyn y gellir ei ddysgu gan y rhai sy'n ceisio lloches yng Nghymru.

Yn ystod y nos, bydd tair ffilm fer yn cael eu sgrinio. Gwnaed y ffilmiau trwy gydweithrediad rhwng ysgolion lleol, teuluoedd o Syriai sydd wedi symud i Ystradgynlais, Neuadd Les Ystradgynlais, Michael Sheen, Ffilm Cymru a chwmni animeiddio Winding Snake Gaerdydd.

Bydd bwyd a diod ar gael.
