Event Details

In the eight years since Tim Cook took over from Steve Jobs, he's grown Apple into a trillion dollar company, launched highly successful products such as the Airpods, rung ever more profit out of the iPhone, and saved Apple billions of pounds by helping persuade Donald Trump to cut corporate taxes. But as Cook widens Apple's focus from making beautiful products to offering subscription services such as Apple TV+, is he diluting the simplicity that made Jobs so unique? Is the flame of innovation still bright enough to produce the next great piece of hardware - or is the Apple of 2020 half-baked?

Special guests include:

What is a Tortoise ThinkIn?

A ThinkIn is not another panel discussion. It is a forum for civilised disagreement. Modelled on what we call a ‘leader conference’ in the UK (or an editorial board in the US), it is a place where everyone has a seat at the table. It’s where we get to hear what you think, drawn from your experience, energy and expertise. It’s where, together, we sift through what we know to come to a clear, concise point of view. It is the heart of what we do at Tortoise.

Drinks from 6.00pm, starts promptly at 6.30pm. If you are late to a ThinkIn you can 'SlinkIn'!

If you would like to contribute to this ThinkIn, let us know by emailing

We film our ThinkIns so we can watch them back, edit the best bits and share them with members who weren’t there in person.

Members can find their ThinkIn booking code in My Tortoise, under My Membership.

Tortoise is building a different kind of newsroom. Not breaking news, but what’s driving the news. Not the news as it happens, but when it’s ready. We want to open up journalism. To give everyone a seat at the table. To create a system of organised listening. A place, in the real world and the digital one, where you can come, learn and tell us what you think.

The ThinkIn is the heart of what we do. It’s modelled on what we call a leader conference in the UK, an editorial board in the US. It’s a forum for civilised disagreement where our members take part in a live, unscripted conversation in our newsroom in order to inform our point of view.
