Event description

Description

In actor training often we find among drama schools, workshops and other forms of training three separate disciplines:

  • Training of the voice

  • Movement training

  • Text and scene work

All valuable to the progression of the actor and essential. However, when do we in ‘Westernised’ actor training get to combine all these elements into one? Naturally… in performance. But is the natural? To break the actor down into three distinct separate parts and disciplines?

Within the workshop we will be focusing on mind, body and voice; not as three separate elements but one. To find the harmony between the body, mind and voice. This highly physically intensive workshop will place emphasis on ensemble work, the connection with ourselves, others and the physical, vocal and psychological strength of the performer. The 'elimination of all organic and technical barriers, freeing oneself of all preconceptions and prejudices which could destroy the organic unity the person in action' - Jerzy Grotowski

Within these workshops the performer can expect to work with:

  • Acrobatics

  • Impulse work

  • Rhythm work

  • Spacial awareness training

  • Text

  • Support of partners and self

Do not think do.

Speak the text the rest is music.

It is important to note for participants that this will be a highly physical workshop.

PREPARATION:

A message from Andrew:

I would like you to have some text in the form of a monologue prepared and learned. This text can be:

From a classical or contemporary play
or
A political speech

It is crucial that this text is not from a movie or television series. The text can be gender neutral as we wont be focusing on conventional approaches but rather how words or the text can resonate inside us and where that can lead to. Make sure you bring a text that you want to access or work with, lets forget about what is right for your specific ‘casting’ for the hours we have together and instead focus on accessing true connection to the spoken word. Learn the text to the extent where you don’t even have to think about your next line - so that is is engrained.

We will be working bare foot. Please bring water with you and a light lunch.

Thank you for wanting to come and share the space with me.
