As the days get shorter and we move into the colder, darker months, it’s important to take care of both our physical and mental well-being, especially in the workplace. At Tottington Manor this November, we invite you to join our engaging and interactive First Aid for Mental Health course. It’s the perfect opportunity to enhance your understanding of mental health, helping to create a more supportive and caring work environment as we head into the winter season.
On this one-day course, you'll learn essential skills and knowledge that will enable you to support colleagues or employees struggling with mental health challenges. The course covers a wide range of topics, from understanding the stigma around mental health, identifying signs of stress, anxiety, and depression, to knowing when to seek professional help. You’ll also gain insight into the effects of alcohol and drug abuse, and how it can impact someone’s personal and professional life.
We aim to make this day as engaging and thought-provoking as possible, so you’ll not only learn practical tools but also gain a deeper understanding of how to support your colleagues with empathy and care. There will be plenty of opportunities to share experiences (if you feel comfortable) and ask questions. This course is flexible, and I’m happy to tailor the content to any specific areas you're particularly interested in.
Here’s a sneak peek at what we’ll cover:
- The role of a mental health first aider
- How to approach someone with a suspected mental health condition
- Active listening skills without judgment
- Identifying the signs of stress and how to manage it
- The effects of substance abuse and how to support affected colleagues
- How to create a positive mental health culture in the workplace
- Recognising signs of depression, suicide, psychosis, self-harm, and more
While this course doesn’t provide the expertise to diagnose or treat mental health conditions, it will give you the confidence to take the first steps in supporting someone who needs help. You'll leave with the tools to approach a colleague in need, offer reassurance, and signpost them to the appropriate professional support.
As winter approaches, when many of us may feel more isolated or affected by seasonal changes, this training is the perfect way to ensure you’re prepared to look out for yourself and those around you. Together, we can help build a workplace culture where mental health is just as important as physical health.
