Description

Touching the Surface, Feeling the Depths

The Centre for Embodiment & Somatic Movement Education & Therapy, in creative partnership with Mary Abrams, Director of Moving Body Resources New York

We are delighted to offer a three day course in somatic movement, body-listening and the movement resonance of ‘Continuum', facilitated by Mary Abrams, director of Moving Body Resources, New York. We welcome our local, regional and national community. The embodied nature of this course aims to nurture artists, teachers, writers, therapists, bodyworkers, coaches, dance practitioners, researchers and performers - and those in our community exploring holistic models of well-being, somatics, movement health and embodied creativity. The attentive and non-verbal nature of somatic movement enhances relationship with self and other in therapeutic, educational, performance and professional contexts.

This workshop explores connection with self, other and the community and focuses on the somatic art of “body-listening” skills, kinaesthetic presence and somatic movement expression. We will explore body-listening through breath, sound and the fluid movement resonance of ‘Continuum’. Our three days together will awaken our capacity for being with each other in genuine moments of presence, moving, feeling and expressing. We will also include verbal exchange skills, using compassionate self-reflexive awareness to expand our possibilities for discovering new meaning and for building community through moving together.

To thrive as humans we are in constant contact with our world. We know the support, healing gifts, and creative play that arise with connection from contact with our early caregivers. This develops in new ways as we grow with playmates and/or siblings, and eventually as adults with trusted loved ones, health and bodywork professionals. Deep calmness and satisfaction can awaken in one’s nervous system when we experience considerate listening and kinaesthetic presence with others. When one experiences interested attention through the kinaesthetic presence of another, joy and self-recognition can flow freely.
