Event description

Description

The first of our planned voyages of discovery this year.

Join Alan Fortune to explore Ealing, long known as the Queen of the Suburbs. Hear about Ealing Studios and its famous film industry connections and discover one of Ealing’s gems, the recently renovated Pitzhanger Manor, Sir John Soane’s elegant country home. You will also hear about a club that changed the face of rock and roll, dark events in Ealing's history and about television’s most famous time-travelling Doctor. Discover also why a suburb famous for its contribution to cinema currently does not have one!

The walk starts at Ealing Broadway Station (Central Line, District Line and Great Western Rail. We meet on the pavement outside the main entrance to the right, next to Dexter's estate agents. The walk ends inside St. Mary’s churchyard in South Ealing, just 5 minutes’ walk from South Ealing Station (Piccadilly Line)). Afterwards you may wish to visit the nearby Rose and Crown, a spacious and pleasant Fuller's pub offering good food. You may, afterwards, wish to double back for a look around the interior of Pitzhanger Manor (ticket required).
