St Bartholomew's Hospital was founded in 1123 by the monk Rahere and granted to the City of London in 1546 by King Henry VIII.
The North Wing of historic St Bart's is currently closed for renovation so while this work is underway, the City Guides offer you the opportunity to find out more about the amazing 900 year story of St Bart's and the surrounding area. The North Wing will reopen in October and from then the City Guides will be offering monthly tours, which will be advertised very soon and which will once again include the splendours of the North Wing.
Meeting at the Henry VIII gate outside the hospital the walk visits the churches of the hospital, its amazing range of architecture, ancient and modern, and tells the stories of body snatchers, tournaments, the market, the martyrs and much more.
The walk takes place on Fridays at 2.00pm and finishes close to Farringdon Station. Ticket sales help the work of Barts Heritage, www.bartsheritage.org.uk
