Event description

Description

Join us on Thursday 25 January at 18:00 for a tour of the newly refurbished Kelvin Hall.

Find out about the rich history of Kelvin Hall, its original use in housing large scale national and international exhibitions, being converted into a factory during the Second World War and as many may remember, as a Circus and International Sports Arena in more recent years.

The recent £35m refurbishment and unique partnership between Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Life, the University of Glasgow and the National Library of Scotland has seen this historic venue transformed into an exciting new centre of cultural excellence providing an exemplary cultural venue that offers modern sports facilities and publicly accessible storage for more than 1.5 million objects and screen archives, creating an unprecedented facility with public access for cross-collection research and collaboration.

A unique insight into the 2nd Phase of the redevelopment will also be provided. Works are almost complete on making the area wind and watertight following an £8m re-roofing project which protects the fabric of the building and offers opportunities to discuss future partnerships on the basis that the facility is ready to fit out.
