About this event

  • 5 hours

Liverpool Cathedral is remarkable for its cavernous size and wonderful art collection, with works dating from the fifteenth century to the modern day. Affectionately known as "Paddy's Wigwam", Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral was redesigned four times before the unique conical structure we know today was completed. Together, Liverpool’s Anglican and Catholic cathedrals represent the remarkable development of twentieth-century ecclesiastical design.

This tour is generously supported by CBG Consultants, an independent practice of building services consultants offering a wide range of mechanical and electrical engineering solutions.

Tour led by Matthew Byrne

We are delighted that historian Dr Matthew Byrne will be guiding us through Liverpool's cathedrals. He has written several books for the National Churches Trust, most recently The Treasures of English Churches, which celebrates some of the greatest art, architecture and furnishings to be found in England's churches. Copies of this beautiful book are available to buy, with all proceeds going to our work supporting UK churches.

Book now

Tickets cost £45 per person (+ booking fee), including coach travel, entry to the cathedrals, tours guided by Matthew Byrne, and a sandwich lunch. This event will raise money for the work of the National Churches Trust, helping churches stay open and in use across the UK.

We want to keep churches open and in use.

Churches, chapels and meeting houses are impressive, exciting and surprising places.

Whether seeking quiet reflection access to critical community services, a warm welcome, a place to worship, or a space to explore open-mouthed, we believe they should be loved and supported. Available to all.

Working together with churches across all four nations, we help to maintain these wonderful historic buildings and keep them thriving today, and tomorrow.

Time is running out for hundreds of historic churches.

You can help us keep them open for future generations by becoming a Friend of the National Churches Trust
