Event description

Description

We are pleased to announce a limited number of guided tours of TS Queen Mary, currently berthed at Glasgow Science Centre on Sunday 18th June.

This is a unique opportunity to step-aboard Queen Mary as she is being restored, to meet some of the craftsmen and engineers who are working on the project and to enjoy an historial talk about the ship's history.

You'll see the work being undertaken to restore Queen Mary's beautiful teak decks and interior spaces. You'll get to go all the way down to the old boiler room to see her brass propellor, and you'll be allowed on the ship's bridge to get a captain's eye view of the Clyde!

Queen Mary was built in 1933 by Denny of Dumbarton and operated day excursions in the Firth of Clyde, until 1977. She was towed from the Clyde to London and - for almost twenty years - was operated as a bar and restaurant. She was sold to a French consortium in 2009, and then to a private investor in 2011. Both plans fell through and, in October 2015, Friends of TS Queen Mary purchased the ship at auction and brought her home to Scotland, in May 2016.

The visits take place at Glasgow Science Centre and are limited to 15 people at a time.

All proceeds from ticket sales go towards the maintainance and upkeep of the Queen Mary.

Please Note

  • Visitors should have suitable footwear
  • The ship currently is suitable for young children and those with mobility issues only with appropriate supervision/assistance
