Event description

Description

Westminster Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066, with the current Gothic building dating to 1245. It has been the setting for many other royal occasions, including 16 weddings. It is not just a place of worship, but also a treasure house of art and textiles, including England’s oldest altarpiece (c1270-80), featuring an image of St Peter, the patron saint of the abbey, and some late-13th- and 14th-century wall paintings. Further tour highlights include Poets’ Corner, the Lady Chapel, the royal tombs and the Chapter House.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries, situated high above the Abbey floor in the beautiful thirteenth century triforium display the Abbey’s greatest treasures and tell it’s thousand-year history.

After tea or coffee in the Cellarium, the event will conclude with Evensong.
