PAVING THE WAY FOR FUTURE ACCURATE CFD



Symposium Objectives

The ability to simulate aerodynamic flows using CFD methods has progressed rapidly over the last decades and has already given rise to a change in design processes in many areas of fluid mechanics. However, the final aim is to move towards efficient and high-fidelity CFD approaches with respect to large-eddy simulations (LES) and direct numerical approaches (DNS) in an industrial framework to overcome the still existing lack in confidence in CFD usage - mostly based on turbulence and transition modelling issues.

The TILDAsymposium offers a dedicated platform for presenting innovative methods and approaches combining advanced and efficient high-order numerical schemes (HOMs) with innovative approaches for LES and DNS, relying on advanced exploitation of massive parallel architectures, to resolve all relevant flow features, i.e. to pave the way for getting close to a full LES/DNS solution for levels of 1 to 10 billion degrees-of-freedom (DOF) not exceeding turn-around times of one to two day only.

An important additional objective of generating high-fidelity LES/DNS simulations is the large potential these data offer to improve current transition and turbulence models. By this, an improved physical knowledge together with more accurate predictions of non-linear, unsteady flows will directly contribute to the aforementioned reliability enhancement of industrial CFD approaches in general.

Moreover, the TILDAsymposium offers the opportunity to communicate and exchange knowledge for academic researchers, graduate students, industrial engineers, as well as industrial R&D managers and consultants working in the fields of turbulent flow modelling, simulations and measurements as well as multidisciplinary CFD applications.

Call for Contributions

Contributions by participants are expected according to the following topics:

  • Advances and applications of high fidelity LES/DNS methodologies

  • Algorithmic and modelling issue for LES simulations

  • Advances on high order grid generation

  • HPC issues on multiple platforms (CPU/GPU)

  • Advances in turbulence modelling, based on LES/DNS databases

  • Industrial relevant applications of LES/DNS and improved turbulence models
