Event description

Description

Target audience: EYFS practitioners, KS1 teachers and TAs, primary English subject leaders

Course leader: Alison Bailey, Pathfinder consultant trainer

In the last couple of years, with the increased expectations of the 2014 National Curriculum and the new Y6 reading test, many schools have made a move towards developing more teaching of reading through whole class texts and lessons, especially at upper KS2. This session will look at practical approaches to using time already allocated to reading books to and with groups of children in EYFS and KS1 more effectively to develop pupils’:

  • vocabulary
  • comprehension strategies
  • understanding of texts
  • ability to express their ideas.
