Event description

Description

Fresh from the World Premiere of his commission for Jodrell Bank’s Lovell Telescope at Bluedot festival, join Daito Manabe as he discusses his new work.

Developed in partnership with Abandon Normal Devices and SHIFT, this inaugural commission for COSMOS, a flagship international artist residency and commissioning programme, features Tokyo-Based Media Artist, DJ, Programmer and member of design collective Rhizomatics, Daito Manabe. Hear from the artist directly about his process to create this ambitious and collaborative work.

The commission includes a residency at Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics, enabling artists to collaborate with scientists and researchers, experiment with data collected by the Lovell Telescope and others, and gain a new perspective on the observatory’s research. It offers artists and scientists a unique, new opportunity to connect and to visualise the knowledge gathered about deep space.

The iconic structure of the Lovell Telescope presents a unique and unparalleled canvas for Manabe to create new work. During the festival the telescope will be receiving radio signals from deep space whilst pointed at the zenith, directly overhead. Manabe’s artwork is projected directly onto the structure of the telescope using advanced projection mapping employing point cloud data gathered by LiDAR* scans completed by Arup.

Hear from the artist directly about his process to create this ambitious and collaborative work. Tickets free but places limited - book to be sure of a place.
