----------------------

A pyramid is to be built in Toxteth. Known as The People’s Pyramid it will be constructed of 34,592 bricks, each containing 23 grams of a person’s cremated remains. The first brick of The People’s Pyramid was laid on its foundation stone on the first Toxteth Day Of The Dead, Friday 23 November 2018. Toxteth Day Of The Dead is intended to be marked on the same date, every year, until the pyramid is completed.

The location of the pyramid has not yet been determined, and so the foundation stone is taken on a procession around part of The Royal & Ancient Park of Toxteth, searching for its future permanent site. The procession is a variation on the old practise of Beating the Bounds, to share the knowledge of the landscape and for blessing the lands.

On its route, the procession performs several rituals, honouring some of the wonderful former inhabitants of Toxteth. The rituals included drumming, humming, grieving and laughter – all components of the finest memorials.
